The Freedom by Symphony team in Barnsley, South Yorkshire welcomed case managers from the British Association of Brain Injury and Complex Case Management (BABICM) at the state of the art marketing suite, where a beautiful Freedom kitchen is on display.

"The BABICM Food for Thought event in Barnsley yesterday was incredible! I learned so much about accessible kitchen design by the insightful Adam Thomas."

Aimed at connection, collaboration and celebrating the important work that case managers do in supporting individuals with brain injury and complex needs, the BABICM event was a resounding success. There were discussions around nutrition, taste and smell, dysphagia and accessible kitchens. Speakers emphasised the importance of food and eating from a social perspective, the importance of nutrition in recovery and how loss of taste and smell can affect eating and drinking.

"What a fantastic day - full of great presentations, demonstrations and conversations."

"This event reinforced the importance of practical, person-centred solutions in care planning - whether that's using technology including accessible kitchens to support mealtime independence or working collaboratively to ensure clients receive the right nutritional support. Thank you to BABICM and Symphony Group PLC for hosting such an insightful day!"

Our favourite TV chef, Peter Sidwell, prepared a superb lunch for the attendees, and also discussed the importance of colour, taste and texture, flavour and variety in food choices.

During the day, Adam Thomas demonstrated the Freedom Kitchens display kitchen, and delivered a talk on the principles of accessible kitchen design, along with some points on costs.
